SMSO's Nature Walk

Saturday, 27th November, 2010 - As part of the end of year programmes, the school held Nature Walk activity for its teachers and students.

The location of the trekking was within the hilly forest at Kampong Perpindahan Bukit Beruang.

In one way or another this activity may instigate the students to be self-aware of the need to appreciate the fragile natural environment and self-conscious on the benefits of conducting healthy activities such as this event.

Congratulations to the top achievers!

Thursday, 25th November, 2010 - The cream of the crop from Year 7, 8 and 9 and Lower 6 were honoured in the Academic Award 2010 at the school's Multi-purpose Hall this morning.

The guest of honour was the school principal, Cikgu Hamidah binti Haji Daud and the attendees were parents of the honoured students, teachers and students of SMSO.

The awardees were either the overall top achievers for the respective classes or subjects.

Apart from the prize presentation, there were also performances inserted into the event itinerary. They were the Lion King musical, the Malay poem recitation and stage performance by the top 3 winners of recent SMSO's Got Talent competition.

In one way or another this event can motivate the students themselves to strive and improve further in their academic performance, for the sake of their future.

Pertandingan Takbir Raya sempena Hari Raya Aidiladha

Khamis, 18hb November 2010 - Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina 'Othman telah mengadakan Pertandingan Takbir Raya sempena Hari Raya Aidiladha 1431 Hijrah. Acara ini telah berlangsung di Masjid Kampong Perpindahan Bukit Beruang, Tutong.

Sebanyak 6 buah pasukan yang terdiri dari penuntut-penuntut menengah dan tingkatan enam telah mempersembahkan takbir masing-masing. Kumpulan-kumpulan tersebut ialah Kumpulan-kumpulan Al-Hidayah, Imtiyaz, Al-Jannah, Ikhlas, Nur Falah dan An-Najihun.

Pada akhir acara Kumpulan Imtiyaz meraih juara, diikuti dengan Kumpulan Al-Falah di tempat kedua dan Al-Jannah di tempat ketiga. Kumpulan-kumpulan An-Najihun, Al-Hidayah dan Ikhlas masing-masing memperolehi tempat keempat, kelima dan keenam.

Majlis ini juga diselitkan dengan penyampaian sijil kepada peserta-peserta Bengkel Fardhu Kifayah yang terdiri daripada guru-guru dan penuntut-penuntut SMSO sendiri.

Interhouse Academic Challenge 2010

Monday, 15th November 2010 - The citizens of SMSO had another day of academical enjoyment as the school organised Academic Challenge among its sporthouses - Mutiara, Intan, Berlian and Baiduri.

The participants from each house went through 10 checkpoints around the school area and were assigned to answer specific subject with the difficulty according to their grades.

In the end, the participants from Mutiara grabbed the top spot. The prize presentation will be conducted on the 30th November during the CCA Award.

Kejohanan Mini Marathon Sekolah-sekolah Menengah Senegara bagi Tahun 2010

Sabtu, 13hb November 2010 - Sekolah Menengah Sayyidina 'Othman telah menjadi tuan rumah bagi kejohanan yang dianjurkan oleh Jabatan Ko-kurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan, Negara Brunei Darussalam.

Tetamu Kehormat pada majlis itu ialah Yang Mulia, Tuan Hj. Kassim, Pemangku Pengarah Jabatan Ko-kurikulum, Kementerian Pendidikan.

Sebanyak 28 buah sekolah-sekolah menengah kerajaan dan swasta serta pusat-pusat tingkatan enam dari keempat-empat buah daerah telah menghantar beberapa orang penuntut bagi mewakili kejohanan ini.

Larian marathon sepanjang 8 kilometer bagi lelaki dan 7 kilometer bagi perempuan bermula pada jam 8.45 pagi, mengelilingi kawasan Kampong Perpindahan Bukit Beruang, Tutong.

Pada akhir acara menyaksikan penyampaian hadiah kepada pemenang-pemenang 20 kedudukan teratas bagi tiap-tiap kategori perseorangan lelaki B, perempuan B, lelaki C, perempuan C, lelaki D dan perempuan D.

Another achievement made by the school!

Thursday, 11th November 2010 - The World Town Planning Day was held at BRIDEX Hall, Jerudong which was successfully officiated by the Minister of Development.

The event also saw the announcement of results for the Sungai Teraban Planning Project and Photography competitions. Our school has sent three teams to participate in the planning project competition whereby they managed to chair outstanding positions as follows:

Team name - Position
Nature Lovers - 4th place
Green Explorers - 5th place
Evergreen - 11th place

There were 27 teams altogether from 6 different sixth form institutions, in which a team from PTE Katok chair the top, proceeded by a team from SM Sayyidina Ali, KB and another team from PTE Meragang grabbed the third spot.

In the succeeding afternoon, a workshop was held at the same venue for students of the planning project competition. From the event the participants were given insights on planning a development project from various point of views. It was definitely an indispensable experience for them as they learn how to plan a project properly and fairly for the greater good of the citizens, not to mention meeting old friends and making new ones.

Congratulations to the respective teams for achieving good positions in the Sungai Teraban Planning Project competition! Even though not among the top three, there is still chance to improve in the following years ahead.

An unforgettable afternoon for the MPPs

10th November 2010 - A three-in-one mini event was held on the Wednesday afternoon in the school's conference room involving the MPP committee and its teachers.

One of the occasions was to bid farewell to one of the MPP members, Muhammad Firdaus bin Hj. Abu Bakar, for his last day being an MPP member before his official bow-out commencing the following day.

On the other hand, the afternoon also saw a surprise birthday party for one of the MPP committee teachers, none other than Ckg. Hjh. Junainah Hj. Ibrahim. It was a belated birthday celebration as she had her anniversary on the 8th November ago.

The third mini event also involved birthday celebration, but to the MPP members who had his or her birthday under the star zodiac Scorpio. There are seven of them - Rieo, Chee Khong, Nadhirah, Fa'iqah, Hamiz, Petricie and Dk. Farah.

There was a mixture of emotions during the event but overall, the MPP members had great time attending it. Delicious foods were served, and smiles did not cease to fade throughout the event.

Praying for Blessings from the Almighty

7th Ocbtober 2010 - Muslim teachers, students and respective parents from Year 8, Form 5 and Upper Six of SMSO gathered in the Kg. Bukit Beruang mosque nearby to perform mass Hajat prayer and recite Surah Yassin to obtain blessings from the Almighty upon the upcoming public exams starting the following week.





The occasion was also inserted with motivational talk conducted by Brunei's leading religious speaker, Dr. Haji Ismuhadi. One ofw the contents was he emphasised the importance of being diligent and the bad effects of being lazy. In one way or another the talk shed some encouragement on the students to perform well for their exams.

6th October 2010 - The MPP committee collaborated with secondary prefects and organised a two-in-one event, namely Hari Raya and Teachers' Day Celebrations. The occasion was held in the school's multi-purpose hall.

The main focuses on the day were the stage performances presented by various parties from both secondary and sixth form students. Lucky teachers and students also had chances of gifts in the lucky draw section, which was held throughout the day. The climax in the hall was the awards for the most popular teachers for secondary and sixth form categories. Last but not least, after the hall event every school citizen enjoyed the feast. Whether in the classes or the staffrooms, lavish foods were everywhere.
